Marabu Cruises

As remembered by Sam Coles

We did the handover from Cruise 1 on 16th July 1994 and did a 'training cruise' to Weymouth for the Tall Ships Race meeting. This included for us our first ever Marine Safety Agency inspection,  unexpected of course,  but our failings were minor and fairly easily remedied. One of their requirements was for the life-buoys to have fluorescent tape applied. The inspectors made use of a mobile phone (the use of which in those days of course were a novel rarity) to make a call to John Kapp for confirmation of some details. After a couple of days festivities we did the Parade of Sail in Weymouth Bay (in company with Overlord) and then passage across Lyme Bay for a start of the race to La Coruña in Plymouth Sound.
